Referenza:
▪ Tarassoff, P. & Horváth, L. (2019): Connoisseur's Choice: Serandite, Mont Saint-Hilaire, Montérégie, Québec, Canada. Rocks & Minerals, 94, 350-357.

Incipit:
For many mineral collectors, serandite is synonymous with Mont Saint-Hilaire. This extraordinary locality has yielded hundreds of superb specimens often featuring large, sharp crystals. No other serandite locality has produced specimens equal in quality or abundance to those from Mont Saint-Hilaire. For this reason a Mont Saint-Hilaire serandite has been chosen as the featured specimen inthis Connoisseur’s Choice column.
Serandite was first described as a new species from Rouma Island, Los Archipelago, Guinea (Lacroix 1931). It was named in honor of Jules Numa Mugnier Serand (1872– 1933), a lighthouse keeper who supplied Lacroix with suites of samples from the Los peralkaline complex (Fontan and
Martin 2017). Lacroix had erroneously spelled Serand’s surname as Sérand, and the mineral name had once been spelled “sérandite.” Serandite is now the correct spelling (IMA 15-E, CNMNC Newsletter No. 28, December 2015; Mineralogical Magazine 79:1864).
The chemical formula of serandite is NaMn2Si3O8(OH). It is an end-member of the serandite-schizolite-pectolite series in the wollastonite group. Structurally, members of the series are inosilicates.

I campioni delle figure 1 e 4 sono spettacolari, ma un bravo anche a Bruno Marello per quello di Cerchiara.
