Abstract:
The creativity process initiates with the aha moment of psychologist and continues with a second moment (which can last a long time) in which the aha moment is elaborated. The aha moment is generated in the right hemisphere of the brain, but the completion of the creativity process demands the interplay of the two hemispheres. Art and science share the basic properties of the creative process; however, they differ in a number of its aspects: the most important is the necessity of validation for that of scientific process. The appreciation of creativity is based on an emotional moment of feeling, which can be domineering in some forms of art, but also on a non-emotional, rational moment of understanding. Rational understanding is always present in scientific creativity, and becomes overwhelming in mathematical creativity, in which, however, it is intrinsically combined with the emotional moment. A number of factors may trigger the appearance of the aha moment. Among them, dreams, and dream-related states, are important. They may cause the emergence of the aha moment from the subconscious, where it may have been dormant for a long time.

Abstract:
Creativity cannot be defined with simple, easily acceptable words. It has complex aspects that must be discussed from different angles. Anatomically, it is assumed to originate in the right brain hemisphere. The once popular idea that the left hemisphere has an inhibitory role, somehow limiting creativity, was probably too absolute, and has now lost consensus: the left hemisphere actually cooperates in the elaboration of the creativity initially originated in the right brain. Neuroscience, however, is still very far from the identification of the genetic and/or molecular correlates of creativity. Biologically, creativity seems to be a specific attribute of the species Sapiens, in which the development in the course of evolution has led to gender differences. Limited forms of creativity may perhaps be present elsewhere, for instance in primates. In broad terms, the structure of the creativity process consists of an initial illumination moment and of a subsequent phase that elaborates it. However, the initial illumination is more complex, and consists of more than one moment. Creativity follows the same rules in art and science, but its degrees of freedom are not unlimited. It probably obeys internal canons, very likely introjected in the course of evolution, that guide it to directions that resonate with them.
