Abstract:
Complex assemblages of Fe–Mn phosphate minerals occur in several granitic pegmatites in the Mount Wills region of Northeastern Victoria, Australia. The Blue Jacket and Knocker dykes are the most fractionated in the pegmatite field derived from late-stage melts of the Late Silurian Mount Wills Granite. The phosphates include members of the arrojadite, alluaudite and jahnsite–whiteite groups, most commonly forming fine-grained intergrowths that have replaced primary phases such as triplite, wolfeite and presumed triphylite. Electron microprobe analysis has enabled the identification of a range of species, based on new nomenclature schemes for the three main groups of Fe–Mn phosphates present in the pegmatites.
