NOMENCLATURE PROPOSALS APPROVED IN APRIL 2018

Jahnsite group
The jahnsite group is established. Minerals within the jahnsite group conform to the general formula XM1M22M32(H2O)8(OH)2(PO4)4. The jahnsite group is divided into the jahnsite subgroup (M3 = Fe3+), which currently inclues ten mineral species, and the whiteite subgroup (M3 = Al), which currently inclues seven mineral species.

Welinite group
The welinite group is established. Minerals within the welinite group conform to the general formula M22+6(M1aM1b)x+(SiO4)2O(x-2)(OH)(8-x), where x is the total charge pfu at the M1 sites. The welinite group currently includes four mineral species, all of them having M2 = Mn2+: welinite (M1 = W6+☐), franciscanite (M1 = V5+☐), örebroite (M1 = Sb5+Fe3+), and barwoodite (M1 = Nb5+☐).

Ursilite: name discredited
Currently the IMA List of Minerals includes as valid species the following three minerals, all with G (= grandfathered) status: calcioursilite, Ca4(UO2)4(Si2O5)5(OH)6·15H2O; magnioursilite, Mg4(UO2)4(Si2O5)5(OH)6·20H2O; ursilite, Mg4(UO2)4(Si2O5)5.5(OH)5·13H2O. Historically, calcioursilite and magnioursilite were described together in 1957 as “ursilite” from the Oktyabr’skoye deposit, Kyzyltyube-Saj, Samgar Steppe, Tajikistan [Voprosy Geologii Urana (Problems of the Uranium Geology), Moscow, 73 (1957)]. At that occurrence, analyses with Ca >
Mg and Mg > Ca were recorded. Subsequently, calcioursilite and magnioursilite were defined instead of ursilite [Proc. 2nd U.N. Int. Conf. on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy, 2, 298-299 (1958); ibidem, 3, 174-177 (1959)]. Therefore today the name “ursilite” is nothing but an obsolete redundancy, and should be officially discredited. This is an executive decision taken by the officers of the IMA CNMNC.

NOMENCLATURE PROPOSALS APPROVED IN MAY 2018
IMA 18-B: Discreditation of the mineral name ‘marshallsussmanite’ with a reinstatement of the name schizolite
Proposal 18-B is accepted, and ‘marshallsussmanite’ (IMA No. 2013-067) is renamed schizolite, according to historical priority.

:blob4:

Ma ci sono cose interessanti anche oltre a queste… tra cui (ma non solo) la jahnsite-(MnMnMg), Mn2+Mn2+Mg2Fe3+2(PO4)4(OH)2·8H2O, di Pietro Vignola, Frédéric Hatert, Maxime Baijot, Nicola Rotiroti, Andrea Risplendente e Sergio Varvello, la già pubblicata oyonite, Ag3Mn2Pb4Sb7As4S24, di Luca Bindi, Cristian Biagioni e Frank N. Keutsch e la jahnsite-(NaMnMg), (Na,Ca)(Mn2+,Fe3+)(Mg,Fe3+)2Fe3+2(PO4)4(OH)2(H2O)8, di Anthony R. Kampf, Barbara P. Nash, Luigi Chiappino e ancora Sergio Varvello.

Complessivamente ben 12 soci AMI (Philippe Roth incluso)!

Ohashi, Y. & Finger, L.W. (1978): The role of octahedral cations in pyroxenoid crystal chemistry. I. Bustamite, wollastonite, and the pectolite-schizolite-serandite serie. American Mineralogist, 63, 274-288.

Russia 821
USA (United States of America) 806
Italy 359
Germany 353
Canada 235
Sweden 184
Australia 166
Japan 143
China 133
Chile 132
