NOMENCLATURE/CLASSIFICATION PROPOSALS APPROVED IN JUNE 2019

IMA 16-F: Proposition of changes in CNMNC policy towards regarding as minerals
combustion products forming on burning coal-dumps
Proposal 16-F is accepted. Crystal phases forming on the burning coal-dumps with no human
agency initiating the fire and no anthropogenic material deposited there should be treated as
minerals.

IMA 19-C: Establishing a new class of type specimen – Anthropotype
Proposal 19-C is accepted. Synthetic analogues, used to justify the existence of a new mineral
species or to obtain the missing properties required for a new mineral characterisation, are
designated as anthropotypes. These anthropotypes should be registered and stored in museums, and
made available for study just like naturally occurring type specimens.

POLISH-UP OF THE IMA LIST OF MINERALS

We are making effective a number of minor changes in the chemical formulae of minerals which, in
their current form, have been inherited from previous IMA-approved compilations. In most cases
the change merely consists in the elimination of subordinate constituents occurring within the same
parentheses together with the dominant constituent. Minerals marked as Q (questionable) in the
IMA List of Minerals were not considered, since these should deserve a more detailed re-appraisal.
Similarly, minerals belonging to a supergroup for which the IMA-CNMNC approved a
comprehensive report were left behind, too, as those formulae have been already discussed and
agreed by a dedicated subcommittee. This is an executive decision taken by the officers of the IMA-CNMNC.

Ricercatori italiani (Bindi, Cámara, Campostrini, Nestola, Risplendente e Vignola) sono co-autori di nuovi minerali con località-tipo non italiane.

La dritsite, Li2Al4Cl2(OH)12(H2O)3, è l'analogo di cloro della akopovaite, Al4Li2(CO3)(OH)12(H2O)3 ed evidenzia una composizione e (ritengo) una struttura diversa (gibbsite-like?) dalle altre specie del supergruppo dell'idrotalcite.

Il gruppo della walentaite (in attesa di novità) comincia a impinguarsi:

Gran parte delle variazioni di cui al "Polish-up", nel DB_AMI, erano già presenti (in alcuni casi con diverso Z).
A breve una versione aggiornata dello stesso sarà immesa nel solito sito web.

D'accordo nel considerare valide specie minerali quelle rinvenute in discariche di carbone che si sono incendiate autonomamente (senza alcun intervento dell'uomo, se si esclude quello dell'averle accatastate). Lo stesso discorso dovrebbe valere per qualsiasi tipo di discarica o di mineralizzazione formatesi in seguito al calore sviluppato da incendi naturali (combustione spontanea, fulmini, gas naturali e simili). Non sempre è facile dimostrarlo… ma si può.

La formula della bianchiniite è davvero inquietante!
Sì, molto molto intrigante (un pentossido di diarsenico) e la struttura è del tutto nuova.

Il pericolosissimo (tossico) pentossido di arsenico viene utilizzato in forma solida o in soluzione nella produzione di arsenati, diserbanti, adesivi metallici, insetticidi, gas colorati e nella stampa e tintura. Potrebbe essersi formato in seguito a contaminazioni da diserbanti o insetticidi o altro? Tutto possibile… ma in una galleria non penso proprio.
Potrebbe infatti essere un processo del tutto naturale: "Strong oxidizing agents such as ozone, hydrogen peroxide, and nitric acid convert arsenic trioxide to the pentoxide".

Be'... in una miniera nitrati e ossidanti girano per il loro mestiere... ma prima bisognerebbe vedere in che contesto paragenetico è stato trovato!

So qualcosa perchè me lo ha accennato uno degli scopritori.
Sono molto curioso di leggere un giorno la descrizione-tipo perchè le condizioni genetiche (naturali) di questa fase sono così peculiari che l'ambiente scientifico in primis ne è rimasto profondamente colpito.

Interessante la dedica della scordariite a Scordari, ora in pensione a Bari e forse poco noto ai forumisti. Grazie a lui (con Mesto e Sharygin) sono state fatte le analisi di Colle Fabbri, al cui articolo ho contrbuito mediante i campioni da me raccolti e selezionati per le analisi.

Il Prof. Fernando Scordari ha lavorato molto sulla tipologia di specie cui ora appartiene anche la scordariite.
Ho aggiunto la giacovazzoite tra le specie del gruppo della metavoltina. L'avevo dimenticata...

La richiesta di depositare il sintetico (antropotipo) in museo unitamente a olotipi, cotipi ecc. è un'apprezzabilissima soluzione, che complica il giusto.

La specie è nuova e la descrizione-tipo è quella dell'apposito topic che posterò dopo questo messaggio. Si tratta di una perovskite, l'analogo di ferro(II) della bridgmanite, MgSiO3.
