Abstract:
Euhedral pseudobrookite crystals in vesicular basaltic rocks from The Anakies volcanoes in Victoria are now well known to mineral collectors.
The pseudobrookite, along with accompanying minerals such as enstatite and titanian magnetite, formed by sublimation from a vapour phase
during cooling of the lavas. The lack of any alteration in the crystals indicates they were stable to low temperatures, probably due to their high
magnesium contents. This note describes the main features of the pseudobrookite crystals and provides chemical data for the first time.
